About this project
A homeowner in Wandi called us about their B&D sectional garage door. The door was still opening and closing, but the light on the opener kept flashing whenever the door was closed.
A flashing opener light is a warning worth checking, so our technician inspected the full door system rather than just the motor. At the bottom corners of the door, the lifting cables were found frayed and worn where they connect to the bottom brackets. These cables carry the weight of the door, and a frayed cable can snap without warning, leaving the door hanging unevenly or dropping on one side.
Both cables were replaced with a new set, wound evenly onto the drums so the door lifts level. A full door service was then carried out, checking and adjusting the springs, rollers, hinges and tracks, and the door was tested with the opener through several open and close cycles.
Even when a door still seems to be working, a warning sign like a flashing light is worth having checked. In this case it led to worn cables being found and replaced before they had a chance to snap.
